Wondering if there is a way to include a short cut to see the site directly without having to launch it from the tray. Is there a way to create a shortcut in the folder that will allow it to open in the browser as the site?

Also - when it launches the person has admin privileges... this is worrisome as I want it to be a non-changeable copy of my site to give to trainees

I recently set out to “portablize” my WordPress installation (and whole webserver) to untether it from my system so that I could run it from other systems.
I tried everything I couldfind like XAMPP, WampServer, UniServer, server2go, etc. Unfortunately even the truly portable webservers which did not require installing Windows services, were still unpleasant, overkill, and abstract too much (you may as well use installers instead of portable zipped copies). This did not mesh well with my hands-on approach of manually configuring everything.
I looked around, nearly giving up, then I found this. WPP was terrific. It was a minimalistic, portable WordPress installation. After examining how it works for a bit, I was able to transfer over my webservers config files, binaries, and data so that I can run an up-to-date web-server with all my features (like SSL) from anywhere anytime.
I am currently examining the documentation for AestanMenu to learn how to extend WPP even further (like adding my VisualSVNServer installation, process controls, easy access to my blogs, etc.)
Thanks again for WPP!

Experienced this error message after running WP-Portable.exe and right click Open Wordpress in browser in system tray.
I wonder if this could be related to previous installation of MySql. My system task shows MySQL process being Stopped status.
Any idea how to fix? Thx

How do you uninstall WP Portable. It doesn't work on my PC, the browser won't open local host and I couldn't be bothered messing around trying to get it to work. It installed all these other programs or Apache or whatever so how do I reverse this installation?

After installing skype, my wp portable does not work. Then I uninstall it, the wp portable get back to work again. This might be a port issue. Does anyone know how to change the port for the wp-portable

I also found this morning that Skype was conflicting with WP Portable. How strange. Anyway you do not need to uninstall Skype, simply quit Skype and WP Portable will work normally.

Hi, I've a question about this software. I've encountered this few times.
Out of sudden, sometimes I cannot open the web page. The browser shows an error message such as "Website cannot be found". I've tried restarting my laptop, no luck.
So what usually I did was extract the wp-portable file to new directory and copy over all the themes I'm currently developing.

Thanks for the software. I've been using it for few weeks, and really like it.
However, I do have a question. How do I run multiple wordpress site using this software?
By default, I can access it from localhost/wordpress. I wish to install more wordpress site like localhost/site1, localhost/site2 etc since sometimes I need to work on multiple website, so I think it'll be easier to have multiple website rather than having to activate and deactivate the theme all the time.

You can try the following:
1. Copy the folder "www\wordpress" to a new one (e.g. "www\wordpress2")
2. Copy the folder "mysql\data\wordpress" to a new one (e.g. "mysql\data\wordpress2")
3. Edit the file "www\wordpress2\wp-config.php" and change the database name to "wordpress2"
Hope that will do,

I got this error when trying to upload a theme (3.86MB file size), I'm trying to fix the error by changing the upload_max_size, increasing it from 2 in the php.ini file, but it doesn't get me a different result, the error is stil there....any advice to make it work

If you're running WP Portable you should have no problem copying the theme directly to the themes folder. No need for uploads.
Subject: Can this be used to design a website offline and then upload to server? By: Dee Date: 26/02/2012
I have hosting which I paid for with a hosting company and they do offer MySQL and Installatron versions of WordPress, but I really like the idea of being able to work on a WordPress blog on my own PC, so I have all the benefits of the speed of working off my own hard drive. I also have a long list f plugins I usually have to manually add to each of my WordPress websites, so was thinking I could start off with your basic version of WordPress and then add all the plugins I usually use and then just copy the entire folder and then I have the basics for any future websites i setup in WordPress.
So far everything seems to be working really well. But what I want to know is if I design a website using this portable system, how do I go about importing the entire thing to my hosting company's server?
I assume I can just copy the files and import the MySQL Database, but where do I find the default database usernames and passwords?

Subject: how to "uninstall" wp portable? By: Nicole Date: 07/02/2012
when I double click the wp-portable exe file my computer "thinks" for a moment and then nothing happens. I wanted to try and run it off of my root C drive, but i can't seem to get anything to work. When I go to localhost/wordpress it gives me a blank page and says "wp-portable." After spending hours not being able to get this to work I'm just going to go back to setting up a dev server on a subdomain for the wp sites I work on. Is there anything I need to do to simply "uninstall" wp-portable so no trace I left on my system or can I just delete the entire folder I extracted and be done with it?
